About Choice Retreat House (CRH)

Commemorating the occasion

At the crack of dawn on April 18 2004, Choicers gathered at the ME House to start a 36 kilometer migration relay to Choice’s new home - the Choice Retreat House at 47 Jurong West, Street 42. This event marked a significant milestone for all Choicers as it commemorated a new chapter in the 23-year history of Choice Singapore, when the first Choice weekend was encountered in 1981, at Minor Seminary & later at the tranquil environment of ME House in Punggol.

There an air of excitement and great anticipation as more than 50 Choicers and their family members walked, jogged and cycled along the 36-kilometre route. The scorching hot midday sun did not dampen their spirits as they marched along, many feeling the camaraderie they have forged over the years while experiencing or serving Choice.

The final team arrived at CRH at about three in the afternoon where they were greeted by His Grace, Archbishop Nicholas Chia, priests, religious and representatives from various religious organisations and the Family Life Society.

His Grace did the honours by celebrating Mass for the community. During Mass, he reinforced the significance of youth & young-adult programmes in Singapore such as Choice, where he stressed the need for Catholic volunteers to stay in touch with the young people of today, providing them some direction and guidance in the choices they make in their daily lives.

His Grace went on to bless Choice Retreat House and officially declared it open for Choice weekends and for all religious organisations, which may want to use the premise for their retreats in Singapore.

It was a memorable day for most Choicers and although many will still fondly remember their weekends encountered in ME House, they also look forward to a new beginning at the CRH. .
